Reforest Farm in Skovvirke

Reforest Farm is located in Skovvirke — a cluster of six small farms. “The name Skovvirke consists of ‘Skov’ which means forest, and ‘virke’ is an old word meaning works, craft, collective endeavor, or something actively created and maintained by people. So the name suggests a living forest community shaped through shared work.”
At Reforest Farm we develop highly productive, carbon-sequestering cultivation systems with a high level of diversity:
  • A large food forest with perennial vegetables and a wide diversity of fruit, berry, nut, and salad trees and shrubs.
  • A nut forest with selected varieties of sweet chestnut, walnut, and pawpaw.
  • A self-feeding chicken forest with trees and shrubs that produce fodder.
  • Biodiversity hedgerows and ponds.
To reduce climate impact as much as possible, we have excluded ruminant animals and external inputs such as compost from industrial agriculture.
At Skovvirke, we build off-grid straw-bale houses with compost toilets, wastewater greenhouses, and independent energy systems. In this way, we combine a high standard of living with a sustainable ecological footprint, actively counter climate change, and regenerate natural resources in practice.
We share and teach through:
  • The book PERMAKULTUR  Practical & Radical Solutions for a World in Crisis— also available in Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian editions.
  • The Permaculture School — a five-month education and work exchange programme for young people (in Danish).
  • Courses in permaculture design, cultivation, and regenerative farming (in Danish)
  • Guided tours, lectures, and political outreach promoting permaculture.
